STANDARD ONE: STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP
School executives will create conditions that result in strategically re-imaging the school’s vision, mission, and goals in the 21st Understanding that schools ideally prepare students for an unseen but not altogether unpredictable future, the leader creates a climate of inquiry that challenges the school community to continually re-purpose itself by building on its core values and beliefs about its preferred future and then developing a pathway to reach it.

My personal professional vision statement articulates who I am, my why, what I value, and my goals as a school leader. I believe as a school leader all of these components will enhance a school's culture and community, academic achievement, and the overall growth and performance of a school.

With a majority of our students learning online or in the VA program this year I worked as the Virtual Academy Coordinator to help support and increase student learning. We did this through 4 strategies but the biggest contributor to increase student learning was through increasing student attendance, participation, and engagement. I was able to work with our student support services and teachers to reach out and address barriers families were experiencing. We did home visits, phone calls, conferences, provided technology, tech services, materials, and helped create plans for families so they could successfully learn virtually. From there we saw great improvement in student attendance and participation. We believe this will help support student achievement of our low performing groups.

As an administrative intern at Washington GT Magnet Elementary School, I served on the School Improvement Team to help support the progress of the school's vision, mission, goals, and improve academic achievement. Also, Washington has core teams that staff serve on that work hand in hand with the School's SIP goals. Above you will find a graphic that is color coded to explain how each core group will work together to achieve the SIP goals and meet/exceed growth. I served on the 4CATS team which worked on the instructional and curriculum planning goal to help improve instruction through remote learning and digital tools. 4CATS worked together to plan PD to help support staff with introducing them to different digital tools to use in their own instruction to increase engagement or improve their digital instruction practices. For the School Improvement Goal Assignment, I used data given to me to go through the process of creating a SMART goal and the steps/strategies a school would take to accomplish the goal. The assignment shows how the SMART goal to decrease school suspensions to create a more positive school culture and environment that will lead to the improvement of academic achievement and success.

This year attendance guidelines and requirements have been changed to accommodate the pandemic that all were facing. But as the year went by we wanted to make sure staff knew what to do when they had an attendance issue vs a participation issue. I worked with the Student Support Services Team to ensure attendance guidelines were followed and that staff were taking the steps they needed to before reaching out to the team for support. Therefore, I created this infographic for our school staff to use to help them. It also reminded them of the WCPSS requirements they were doing daily to ensure they were following attendance guidelines. Lastly, this was a strategy to ensure all students were being supported and no student fell through the cracks or were not a part of the conversation if they were having attendance or participation issues.
